  • I am assuming you are a fellow gamer, the concept of basing a desire to recreate our fantasies is why we’re all here. Whether it was a character from a favorite novel as a child, that one movie, with those two guys (you know the one), or a show you ran home from school everyday to not miss a minute of. My point is, when you ask a roleplayer for their source of inspiration, you’re going to hear about favorite characters and ideals from throughout the entire genre of fantasy, sci-fi, noir, even westerns if you ask the right folks, we all grew up pretending to be someone, and luckily, most of us never outgrew that. The problem comes in […]

Nelson and Todd Gamble.  Two friends who saw a void in the market, and decided to pool their talent and experience to open a subscription […]

Published by the crew over at Open Design, known for the well received Kobold Quarterly, this gazetteer marks the beginning of the efforts to bring Zobeck from 3e to the Pathfinder community.  The PDF weighs in at a healthy 117 pages, with covers (front and back, full color w/ illustrations), OGL, ToC and Intro pages all taking up 7 pages total. That leaves us 110 pages folks, 110 pages of material, art, items, history and stories. The artwork ranges between sketch and more refined illustration, with both color pieces and B&W. Each chapter opens with a full page B&W […]

  •   I honestly have no idea what to say about this movie. It literally left me speechless….in a very, very not-good way. Basically? This movie was pompous and confusing. I get symbolism. I get imagery. But this? This was tripe. 40 minutes of muddled, fractured images that do nothing but make the viewer throw up their hands in frustration is one thing, but it you can even get through the first of those, the story that follows is also rubbish. The official summary is this- “The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played […]

At first glance, and yes by the assumption made from the books title, it would appear this book is strictly for the designers out there, a how to guide if you will, on how to make a successful game and thereby put your name on the map when it comes to the gaming industry. But looking through the chapters and essays contained within one discovers very quickly there is so much more to […]

  • It was while I was stuck in a particularly nasty bit of traffic that it dawned on me. What if Zombies really did attack? What would I do? How would it affect me? … … … Would it really be that bad?! The answer wasn’t as simple as you think. We all know why this human destruction of epic proportions shouldn’t happen. There’s the virus/machines/curse/bad day at the office/ that would leave you half rotten and craving the flesh of your own children. There’s the lurching, the smell, the inevitably fight for survival if you haven’t been turned yet. There’s the fact that there would most probably be no internet or new movies. I think the last one was the final Dark Tower book. I’m so happy to be able to say that now! I LOVED this book! The Master of Horror has written a beautiful, touching novel that’s not at all like his usual work. Let me be clear…This is NOT a horror story. This is a love story, through and through, and it’s not at all what I expected it to be. Without spoilers, 11/22/63 is about a man who finds a ‘rabbit hole’ that transports him back […]

I’d like to introduce you to the original Dr. Daniel Jackson, a name as popular in the sci-fi universe as James Bond is to action. Played by James Spader in the 1994 movie, this man set a course in history that would last for sixteen years. I sometimes wonder if the original makers of the Stargate movie knew how popular the series would become, if they would’ve spend more time thinking about their actors, […]

  • One of the Best Comics you Never Read So what exactly do you get when you cross the Wizard of Oz with a back drop of the Color Purple? Well you get an epic adventure called Bayou. It’s the tale of a little black girl named Lee who’s on a quest with a Jazz playing Swamp Beast on a quest to save her father and her best friend and play mate (who happens to be white). Now for those of you reading this who are not familiar with the Color Purple, it was set during some extremely hostile racial times (at least for black folk). Of course you know the Wizard of Oz (which coincidentally was also set  in racially hostile times) gives us a whimsical tale […]

You know the twists and turns, you might find an award (or kill) here or there that you missed the first time but generally, it’s all the same from beginning to end. Not so I have to say with the game Heavy Rain. Having purchased this game more almost a year ago, I surprised myself the other night by feeling the need to play it again. For the fourth time. In it, Lois does a story on….get this….”Little Africa”, in Metropolis and the black folks are so distrusting of white people ,that they won’t even speak to her. She is also berated by a black man holding a “street meeting” for other black folks. Then in an attempt to “connect” with […]
