  • One of the Best Comics you Never Read So what exactly do you get when you cross the Wizard of Oz with a back drop of the Color Purple? Well you get an epic adventure called Bayou. It’s the tale of a little black girl named Lee who’s on a quest with a Jazz playing Swamp Beast on a quest to save her father and her best friend and play mate (who happens to be white). Now for those of you reading this who are not familiar with the Color Purple, it was set during some extremely hostile racial times (at least for black folk). Of course you know the Wizard of Oz (which coincidentally was also set  in racially hostile times) gives us a whimsical tale […]

  • So I have been following the Static Shock buzz since I heard of it’s relaunch in the DCnU. I had high hopes and all that yadda, yadda, yadda……I was so wanting it to succeed that I bought the books even when the writing bothered me and even when I had problems with the storytelling, I soldiered on and hoped for the best…..wasn’t the first time I waited for a comic to get good. I figured they would change writers and believe in the book as much as the fans would….well they got a new writer but it was too little too late…. John Rozum the initial writer explained why he left the book, I expected his response to be a bit bitter and venomous….and honestly he […]

  • Say what you want about the sad state of affairs that led to the destruction of this Static Shock DCnU series. But I have got to give major league mad props to cover artist Khary Randolph. The way Static looks, the set up of the composition, the sheer perfection of it all, really makes you want to pick up this book. I don’t knock McDaniel’s art, but I really would have loved to see this level of art throughout the book. In any case this marks the last book with McDaniel as writer, but he will continue the artist duties until issue 8. Check out the new Static Shock Trailer below and feel free to comment on what you think Will you be […]

  • Some superheroes are larger than life.Others are better than good. And others still are powerful beyond belief. Invincible is all three combined with something extra……..HE IS EPIC. Every issue, and every page, and every panel, every word, every line is nothing short of enjoyable. If you are not reading comics, this is one you will want to start with from issue one. Now I know it sounds like I’m totally “jocking” this book and I am. It’s that fricken good. I wouldn’t build it up as an extremely great book if I wasn’t so certain that it was. Robert Kirkman as a writer is solid (if you think i’m lying, check out the walking dead.) He can really hold a story together. The […]

  • So the 60’s and 70’s come along and there are a lot of books that make social commentary, which is no big shocker because many comics, since they have been around, have made some sort of social commentary or another about something, whether it was war, poverty or whatever….it seemed the best was done through Marvel comics but then DC released in Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #106 “I Am Curious Black”. In it, Lois does a story on….get this….”Little Africa”, in Metropolis and the black folks are so distrusting of white people ,that they won’t even speak to her. She is also berated by a black man holding a “street meeting” for other black folks. Then in an attempt to “connect” with […]

THEY REALLY MADE THAT INTO A COMIC: I Am Curious Black
