E3: The Last of Us and Beyond…

If there was ever a time that I am excited about being a Playstation owner, it is now. After following E3, I’ve come to the conclusion that we’re in for a rough and hopefully extraordinary ride.

Creators of Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream has announced the release of a new game called Beyond: Two Souls. Academy Award nominee Ellen Page, famous for her role as a pregnant teenager in Juno and the architect student in Inception, voices a woman named Jodie Holmes who appears to have a psychic connection to an entity named Ivan.  Hunted for her power, the game follows fifteen years of her life in which the gamers actions and decisions will influence the course of her history. The trailer promises a game that would be more action orientated than their past titles, yet still carry the developers incredible story telling. This is definitively a game worth watching out for. The current release date is scheduled for February 2013 and it will be exclusive to PS3.

Another PS3 exclusive that was features is The Last of Us. I’ve been stalking this game online for a while. Featuring a post-apocalyptic type setting, the Last of Us will follow the story of Joel and Ellie, two humans trying to survive in a world run over by ‘The Infected’ and the other survivors who are hostile towards them. Uncharted developers Naughty Dog showed their first gameplay for the game at E3 where players will take control of Joel in order to navigate the two characters through the desolate ruins of Pittsburgh. The E3 gameplay showed a brutal world in which the players will have to utilise everything at their disposal to try escape their dire circumstances. Although they have no announced a specific release date yet, it is clear that this is going to be one of Sony’s most anticipated games.
