By now you’ve probably all heard that the monthly membership cost is going up.  The price increase affects new members immediately, while existing customers will be seeing a price increase by September of 2011.  I know, I know, it IS a huge bummer to lose out on a few extra bucks a month, it adds up!  Should we be grandfathered in?  I think so.  Netflix disagrees with me.  I’m the kinda of guy that sees a glass with water in it, and I’ll try be thankful that I have water, as opposed to focusing on how empty the glass is, but it’s tough to swallow another hit to the pocket book…

Hopefully this helps…

New to Netflix Instant Streaming:

The Mid Nineties animated series!  For 4 years I was very, very happy sitting in front of the TV as a child.  It is one of the best crossovers in medium that I know of.  To go from such a successful comic book series with decades of material to this compressed Saturday morning cartoon and not lose the excitement and the ability of the audience, young or old, to relate to the X-Men was a masterful display of talent and skill.  I wish the people behind the movie franchise took a hint (or a thousand) from the creative minds behind this series.  Sure it’s old and when watching it, you can tell it’s a bit dated, however the series has an epic main team: Gambit, Rogue, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Jean Grey, Jubilee, Wolverine, and…  Morph…   There are cameos through out the series from characters such as Bishop, Colossus, Longshot, and Alpha Flight.  They face awesome enemies including Magneto, Juggernaut, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Pyro, Avalanche, Mystique, Sabretooth, and The Sentinels to name a few!  To say that I’m excited that Netflix finally has this series availible for a permanent spot on my Instant Queue would be an understatement.

Another Mid-Nineties animated series that was also a Saturday morning cartoon.  This TV show version was fantastic and Spidey was constantly facing different evil foes including the Green Goblin, Kingpin, Rhino, Dr. Octopus, Electro, The Chameleon, The Lizard, and Venom.  What a great morning with these shows back to back, and now you can watch them anytime on Netflix.

The original series from the 60’s…  Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, and the rest of the team boldly go where no one has gone before!  It’s classic.

StarTrek: The Next Generation

My favorite of the MANY versions of StarTrek, with Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.  A great crew consisting of Data, Geordi, Riker, Worf, O’Brien, the Crushers and others…  The varied and diverse crew really set this series apart, as well as complex enemies that you can often relate to.  The casting was phenomenal and we had some great actors playing roles that really came to life on screen.

I don’t like paying more money for things that stay the same, but assuming that Netflix continues adding movies and TV shows, constantly expanding their already MASSIVE catalog, then I’ll feel better about a small price increase.  What about you?  Are you going to pay the difference?  Or are you going to quit your membership?
