AD&D 2nd edition Archive

  • Although my first introduction to AD&D started with the original 1st edition books, the books for AD&D 2nd edition played a much bigger role in the longevity of the game for me and my group.  We spent almost two decades running this system, thus we came to know these books so well and used them so much that the pages literally started falling out of the binding.  It got to the point where I could instantly flip the book open to non-weapon proficiencies or spells by feel, yes we were that hardcore into 2nd edition. So, having WotC re-release the books I grew up with was a special treat for me.  When I received these books in the mail I […]

  •   Today is a grand day for a reviewer like yours truly since I’m going to take a look at Frog God Games’ new iteration of the granddaddy of all dungeons,   RAPPAN ATHUK   This pdf is 676 pages long, 1 page editorial, 2 pages ToC, 10 pages of thanks for kickstarter backers, 4 pages of SRD, 15 pages of space for character obituaries, 5 pages of advertisements,1 page front cover and 1 page back cover, leaving a total of 635 pages of content.   How does one review the third iteration of Rappan Athuk? Seriously. I asked myself this question for quite some time. Slumbering Tsar, the last monster-book by Frog God Games came in installments. Not so […]

  • With a weight of 15 pages (cover and OGL eating two of those) this PDF starts us out with an absolutely gorgeous cover piece of art from Lin Bo. The iconography of this cover piece definitely convey the sense of ancient secrets of power. Internally, the artwork is B&W, with pieces ranging from good to OK. This PDF continues a new look from the SGG camp for layout, going with a full page cover and dual column with embedded artwork formatting approach. Editing and spelling both appeared to be excellent, nothing really jumped out and caught my attention. Building an entirely new game mechanic, and form of magic, from three spells essentially would be daunting to say the least. It’s […]

  • The first thing one can not escape when scanning through the 488 pages of Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) Core Rule Book is the art. It’s everywhere, and I do mean, everywhere. The TOC is laid out inside art panels held up by characters, credits, play tester thank yous, designer notes, all tucked into the artwork, that is…for lack of better explanation, straight out of the 70’s. Seriously, this IS your daddy’s artwork folks lol. The art instantly took me back to my childhood and the style of RPG games that were on the shelves at my local game-store when I first got into role playing as a hobby. Is it cheezy art? Oh yeah, but in all the […]

  • I found this on a Christian website that seems to think Dungeons and Dragons is a game of the Occult and draws our children deeper and deeper into the bowels of “El Diablo”! I cannot believe how ignorant these people are. Don’t fear what you don’t understand. Anyone that has a problem with D&D should come sit in on a gaming session. It’s a bunch of people drinking soda, eating chips, and role-playing a game for fun. There’s no devil worshiping or casting of magical spells, it’s just dice and your imagination. Read this comic and then watch the video I added at the end! Have fun! *snicker* Straight Talk on Dungeons and Dragons  By William Schnoebelen Should a Christian […]

When the sword was pulled from his sheath he noticed that it did not glow. “Curious.” Queless pulled the Velvet Champion’s whistle out of his pocket, put it to his mouth and blew. It was silent for a moment and then a strange light could be seen moving ever closer from the deeper depths of the cavern. As Queless watched the light grew brighter and brighter until it was upon him! A giant glowing orb with a huge eye in the center and a gaping maw full […]

His feet splashed on the top of the water as if there were only a wet floor as opposed to a foot or more of water! He simply sought to escape entrapment in the sludgy sewers of Waterdeep.
