  • Hello all, and welcome back to War Duke’s table-top miniatures review. I know this was supposed to have been a monthly article, but in between having to move recently, worrying with my dad’s surgery, dealing with an impacted wisdom tooth *and* the holiday rat-race, I haven’t had much time to get this thing done. So without further adieu, let’s get this show back on the road and in proper form. WD: I’d like to start by welcoming our guest Matthew Solarz, whom I recently reviewed in part one of this discussion; covering his CenterStage Miniatures product line. Thank you Matt for taking the time out to speak with us here at Nerd-Trek. MS: Thanks for your interest in CSM! WD: […]

Seriously. I asked myself this question for quite some time. Slumbering Tsar, the last monster-book by Frog God Games came in installments. Not so […]

  • Welcome to my very first miniatures review on NERD-TREK. In this ( hopefully ongoing) series, we will be taking a close look at gaming miniatures both past and present. Including interviews with manufacturers, sculptors, painters and fellow enthusiasts as well as product reviews and possible sneak peeks at some upcoming miniatures. In part one of this post, we’ll be covering some of the products from Center Stage Miniatures.  Which reminds me, I’d like to take a moment and personally thank Matthew Solarz at Center Stage for donating both their time as well as the minis that made this series possible.  But enough about me, on with the review….   It was several months ago that I was contacted by the […]

  • With a weight of 15 pages (cover and OGL eating two of those) this PDF starts us out with an absolutely gorgeous cover piece of art from Lin Bo. The iconography of this cover piece definitely convey the sense of ancient secrets of power. Internally, the artwork is B&W, with pieces ranging from good to OK. This PDF continues a new look from the SGG camp for layout, going with a full page cover and dual column with embedded artwork formatting approach. Editing and spelling both appeared to be excellent, nothing really jumped out and caught my attention. Building an entirely new game mechanic, and form of magic, from three spells essentially would be daunting to say the least. It’s […]

The TOC is laid out inside art panels held up by characters, credits, play tester thank yous, designer notes, all tucked into the artwork, that is…for lack of better explanation, straight out of the 70’s. The art instantly took me back to my childhood and the style of RPG games that were on the shelves at my local game-store when I first got into role playing as a hobby. Is it cheezy art? Sighing, I rose from the carpeted floor and congratulated my opponent, handing back to him the tape measure and the little ship figures. I was out of the battle, and now adrift within the meeting of my high school’s War-game Club. So what to do now? It was only 7 pm and my Mom would not be coming to pick me up for another hour, at least. All the other club members were happily engaged in their respective Avalon Hill pursuits leaving me odd man out. Walking around the tables I noticed that there was […]

  • Chapter 8 The two friends left the horrific scene at the Silver Lion Inn and headed down the hill towards the docks. The smell of the sea permeated the entire area and a cool summer wind blew up from the ocean and through the streets tossing Queless’s hair about. It felt good to have clean air to breathe and the smell of the ocean invigorated him. “One day twould be magnificent to sail these fair seas looking for adventure on the open ocean.” Queless murmured. “Not fer me.” Morin said “I prefer to keep me feet on solid ground. • Chapter 7 Queless rushed out of the Temple of Lathander and onto the streets of Waterdeep. It took him awhile to find his bearings but soon he spotted Piergeron’s Palace and some kind of commotion on the street nearby. A group of guards was gathered around something on the ground. A few people stopped and either laughed or smiled and continued on their way. As Queless drew closer he could hear Morin’s voice cursing up a storm. “Damn it, let me go will you? He immediately rose up and out of the water, standing just on the very surface. Rings pulsated out as he took each step, then he heard the strange noise again and began to run as fast as he could in the opposite direction. His feet splashed on the top of the water as if there were only a wet floor as opposed to a foot or more of water! He simply sought to escape entrapment in the sludgy sewers of Waterdeep. It may be called “the City of Splendors” he thought, […]
