  • Fellow geeks and gamers – we’ve all been in similar situations. Friends of ours that are into sports or dance clubs constantly hound us about being a Hobbit(minus the adventuring) because we never go out to loud venues and, instead, choose the private setting of a home in order to take in the latest Dr. Who  episode or to play Magic: The Gathering with friends. For too long geeks have been misunderstood and mislabeled as self-chosen social outcasts. And there may be some geeks out there that DO choose to live completely off the social grid. But that is not who I speak for…. I speak for the geeks that want a place to call our own. I am talking […]

  • Although my first introduction to AD&D started with the original 1st edition books, the books for AD&D 2nd edition played a much bigger role in the longevity of the game for me and my group.  We spent almost two decades running this system, thus we came to know these books so well and used them so much that the pages literally started falling out of the binding.  It got to the point where I could instantly flip the book open to non-weapon proficiencies or spells by feel, yes we were that hardcore into 2nd edition. So, having WotC re-release the books I grew up with was a special treat for me.  When I received these books in the mail I […]

  • On a cold November evening in 1976, in the basement of the downtown library, I met my watery end. My flagship was spotted, attacked and sunk carrying all hands down to their doom. Sighing, I rose from the carpeted floor and congratulated my opponent, handing back to him the tape measure and the little ship figures. I was out of the battle, and now adrift within the meeting of my high school’s War-game Club. So what to do now? It was only 7 pm and my Mom would not be coming to pick me up for another hour, at least. All the other club members were happily engaged in their respective Avalon Hill pursuits leaving me odd man out. Walking around the tables I noticed that there was […]

  • Take a short pause in your day to reflect on your D&D legacy, the RPG games that you used to play with friends when there were no limits on time and anything was possible.  Take a moment and share those memories with us today in the comments section below, and if you have the time read this article where I lament over the death of my youth and subsequent loss of free time. When I was a teenager in school, without a job, and spending summers with my friends we used to game like there was no tomorrow.  Our game of choice was AD&D 2nd edition and we played in all the campaign settings.  Our favorites were Forgotten Realms, Dark […]
