  • Anyone that knows me, knows I love FPS games. Not the campaign mind you, but the online multiplayer. Yes Modern Warfare did actually have a great single player campaign, but great single player campaigns and the COD franchise aren’t exactly hand in hand. So why is there such emphasis on the single player campaign from Treyarch? Rumor circulating about it claims that certain missions will be one shot deals where dieing will actually affect the storyline. A page obviously swiped from the Heavy Rain playbook. But does anyone care? Never mind the massive plot holes, like characters that died in Black Ops mysteriously being alive. Or the juxtaposition of flipping from normal combat in the 70’s and 80’s to futuristic […]

  • The name Goldeneye 007 summons memories of my college days, living in a party house and spending our time playing video games instead of studying.  We would gather with our individually earmarked 6-packs and bulky N64 controllers to battle it out in multi-player. My strategy was always the same.  Load up on proximity mines, litter the level with them, then hide somewhere and snipe any players who happened to make it through my ridiculous minefield.  I would laugh maniacally while the others exploded in bursts of flame and curtains of blood poured across their screens time and time again.  I actually recall one particularly heated game where a roommate physically attacked me because he enraged with my usage of proximity […]

  • Rage: A New Version of the Old Scene Rage is the new IP from ID Software, a company that has not released a new game in 15 years. Oh, and if you don’t like my usage of Aerosmith lyrics in my title, tough. Anyway, I digress. They have, however, given us gems like Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D and created the fps genre we all love so much today. That takes us to Rage, the newest installment from Id. I was lucky enough to have a full hour to play Rage at PAX Prime this year. The game blew me away! The cinematic opening shows Earth being struck by an asteroid, which causes the apocalypse. You wake up from a […]

  •   Our interview at PAX Prime with Red 5 Studios regarding their new game Firefall sure started off awkward.  In a way that’s kind of how we intended it.  Bill and I walked into our appointment surrounded by larger than life statues of game characters and huge screens playing cut-scenes from the game itself.  We introduced ourselves and told them we were with NERD TREK. Soon we found ourselves talking with a gentleman whom we later found out wasn’t just any lackey programmer, but the LEAD developer of the entire game.  Of course, we found this out after asking a series of somewhat uncalled for questions to appease our own comedic appetites as well as those of our readers. NERD […]

  • PAX 2011 – Day 3 The morning came early. Our team successfully uploaded the GuildWars2 panel videos but it was a late night. We were all tired but had to push forward. We still had a lot of interviews ahead of us. I looked down and saw that the camera wasn’t plugged in, once again. I knew I would never hear the end of it. The day started off slowly. My legs ached from all the walking over the previous couple days. The shower didn’t seem strong enough to push the sleep from my brain. Loveless and I started out the day by finding the booth of a company we had to cancel on previously. It was impossible to make it to every appointment on time […]
