Kinect Archive

  • From the moment the Microsoft Kinect was announced I knew it would make a great new toy, but not as an addition to the Xbox 360.  Like my iPhone, the Xbox 360, the Wii, and practically every other piece of technology in my home, the Kinect was just asking to be hacked. The Kinect has 3 cameras, two of which are 3D depth sensors and the third which is a simple RGB camera for pictures and video.  It also sports a multi-array microphone that lines the bottom of the unit.  Finally, it adjusts it’s own view of you via a motorized base. Instead of getting deep into tech specs and techno jabber here I will simply refer you to the […]

  • Here’s a list of video games that I’d like to see more information on, if I’m not already anxiously awaiting the release.  Most of them come out by the end of the year 2011, but there are a couple early previews for 2012…   Assassins Creed: Revelations The city looks beautiful.  This game takes place in Constantinople after the events of Brotherhood.  You’ll be looking for 5 keys to unlock the library.  Eighty-five percent of the city is sloped.  Zip lines utilizing the new hook blade are often used since the city is so sloped.  The hook blade is vicious.  It’s really cool.  You can tear into people and finish enemies with some interesting moves using the hook blade.  You can use a smoke bomb and “Eagle Sense” (like eagle […]

  • The answer will probably surprise you. First off we did some investigative research on the current technologies available to the general public. Given what we currently know about computers, an auditory and oral interface would be completely plausible and can even be constructed in such a way that it would only respond to your voice commands or those whose voices have been authorized. People have been designing, programming, and utilizing oral interfaces for years now. The holographic technology displayed in the movies is still years away and technically holograms are not capable of producing the imagery shown in the Iron Man movies. The closest thing to that technology is the Microsoft Surface. There’s actually another solution that will let you […]

  • Motion controls, I’ve never been a big fan of them, until I got the Socom 4 Full Deployment Edition. It’s something I’ve always equated to the gaming equivalent of training wheels, something “real” gamers would never lower themselves too. After all, my Dualshock 3 has 10 buttons if you include the analog sticks, 2 of those actually, and 4 directional buttons, so why would I ever stoop so low as to use a motion controller? Simply because the Sony Motion controller is brilliant! Unlike the “insert gag here” Wii motion controller, it works, and it’s accurate. Not to mention the Sharp Shooter! It holds the two pieces of the motion controller in an assault rifle shaped case, making the game […]
