Mass Effect 3 Archive

  • Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the end of Mass Effect 3 and general plot lines. Do not read it if you don’t wish to be informed. I think it’s about time to try and gain some perspective on Mass Effect 3. I’ve been waiting for this game for almost a year, after I had obtained the second game from a second hand game store and flirting the attendant down to a fraction of the price. I don’t know what made me pick it up, I guess I just… liked the look of it. I’ve always been an RPG fan and have been anxiously looking for something to fill the void that the unsatisfactory Fall Out: New Vegas had […]

  • You have to hand it to Bioware, they certainly know how to market a product. The month leading up to the release of the game was filled stunts, from psyching up that rumoured 18% of FemShep players to get #FemShepFriday trending in the US through twitter (and succeeding) to shooting copies of the game off into space. As if the fans needed any more motivation to buy it. We were treated to several trailers including the CGI trailer released with The Walking Dead, the launch trailer featuring broshep and even an unanticipated CGI FemShep trailer (which was the best of the lot in my opinion). Then, on the 5th of March in the time leading up to the midnight launch […]

  • Having discovered that I won’t be able to write about the Mass Effect 3 demo release due to a delay on the European release of the demo I decided to talk about the character that has become the second most talked about theme of Mass Effect in the past week.   Friday saw the release of the first ever official Female Commander Shepard trailer. This is after scores of fans had campaigned to Bioware, asking them to use ‘FemShep’ as she is fondly called in their marketing for the first game. Officially, Bioware declared that only about 18% of all gamers play as the female protagonist voiced by Jennifer Hale (though I still believe those statistics are wrong) and probably […]

  • In the new trailer from Mass Effect Crew, Bioware introduced us to some of the voice actors that we’ll be encountering in the new game. Among the old favourites returning will be Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man, against whom Shepard will be at odds during the course of the game. Sheen needs no introduction as his name speaks for himself. He is best known for his roles in the series The West Wing and the movie Apocalypse Now which earned him a nomination for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor. Sheen reveals that in this game, we will very clearly see in which direction the Illusive Man is trying to take humanity and on who’s side he is (something we could […]

  • Please take note for those who have not played it, this article contains spoilers for scenes from Lair of the Shadow Broker – Mass Effect 2 DLC. Last time I wrote about on my main Love Interest in the Mass Effect franchise but, I have a confession to make. Kaidan (spelled with an a, not an e) might have been the first romance that I picked but he is most certainly not my favourite. And no, I’m not referring to the incident on Horizon. I’m referring to my experience as a gamer from the view of someone who appreciates a good story. My first Mass Effect game had my Female Shepard being confronted by both Kaidan and Liara, both requesting for the ‘situation’ […]

  • If there is one thing we are all expecting from Mass Effect 3, it’s the prospect of having the most emotional journey with Shepard yet. It became clear from the very start that there wasn’t going to be any middle ground in this epic conclusion of the trilogy. In the first gameplay that was released, we saw Shepard trying to coach a young boy out of a ventilation shaft as Anderson lead them through the ruins of Earth. He spoke kindly to the lad but the boy balked and disappeared, only to reappear later as Shepard reached the Normandy… If you know how this scene ends, I don’t have to elaborate and if you don’t, I’m not going to spoil it […]

  • It was one of my most anticipated moments in the second Mass Effect game. As Female Shepard I had just saved the colony of Horizon from having all of their colonists carried off by the Collectors. As I watched the large ship leave the planet, I found myself dreading the next few seconds, knowing that I was going to find out if Kaiden, my FemShep’s love interest from Mass Effect 1, was taken or not. A part of me had hoped that he would be gone, because then I could heroically rescue him from the arms of his captors. But, as it turned out, he had remained behind, much to the irritation of the cowardly engineer who was more than […]
