  • I can talk about The Hobbit, the movie that everybody has supposedly been waiting for. The blockbuster of the year. But, after three hours of nonstop dwarves and data dumping, I can honestly say that I’ve had about enough of the epic fantasy for now. The truth is that The Hobbit measured frighteningly short, though – considering that Peter Jackson took a very slim children’s book and turned it into an epic the length of Lord of the Rings – I had expected something like this. Where with Lord of the Rings the screen writers took out most of the unnecessary facts with The Hobbit they did exactly the opposite. They added stuff. And yes, I know it was in […]

  •   Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in […]

  • I’m afraid I’ve come to the conclusion that Nicolas Cage, the star of some of my favourite movies like The Rock, Con Air and Face/Off has become a B-rated actor. For the past day I’ve tried to think when last I saw a good movie with him in and I’ve come up shockingly short. His choice of films are just not what they used to be. Take Seeking Justice for instance. The film starts off with what I like to think of as a ‘tension hook’. It’s an action film, so naturally – the film starts off with someone dying in a tense scene that involves a lot of screaming, but not a lot of common sense (just get out of the […]

  •   I love me a good ghost story. I love to be scared. I mean, LOVE to be scared. I love the anticipation, I love build-up and I LOVE the reveal. And it seems like it’s been forever since we had a good old fashioned ghost story! Sure, we get a ton of blood and gore…but when was the last time you saw a real GHOST story? The Woman In Black fills that void nicely. Of course, it does have its flaws. It starts off VERY slowly. The first 50 minutes are a snore-fest. But after that, it’s a fun and jumpy ride! Daniel Radcliff does a decent job in his role as Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to a remote village […]

  • I’m going to begin this review by confessing that I’m actually NOT a baseball fan. I do understand baseball, and I AM a sports fan, so I do feel that I’m qualified to write a review about a sports movie. 😉 Moneyball is about Billy Beane, the General Manager of the struggling Oakland A’s. After losing his three top players, Beane, with the help of Ivy league graduate Peter Brand, develops a completely new way to build a ball team. Brad Pitt is great in the role of Beane, and his performance made the whole movie.  Jonah Hill as Brand is another story.  Don’t get me wrong. I’m a big Jonah fan. It just seems like he plays every part […]

  • All I knew about The Grey going in was that it starred Liam Neeson and there were wolves in it. I didn’t expect much, and I’m so glad I didn’t know anymore than that. This movie was GREAT! It’s gritty, dark, depressing and graphic. I hope I don’t offend anyone when I say this is the perfect guy movie. That’s NOT to say women won’t enjoy it…I mean, I’M a woman and I liked it!…But it’s definitely NOT something most women would like. The Grey is about a bunch of oil riggers whose plane goes down in the Alaskan wilderness. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that anything that can go wrong, DOES go wrong. These poor guys battle […]
