  • Monster Movie Matinée This bestiary clocks in at 26 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 22 pages of content, so let’s take a look, shall we?   So, as the introduction (accompanied by a ToC with CRs) specifies, this book constitutes a love-letter to monsters that pay homage to classic horror flicks – not the silver screen of old, but rather to the more recent creatures featured. The advice to let them build up momentum is something I, indeed, with years upon years of horror gaming under my belt, would also advise in favor of. So let’s take a look, shall we?   The first creature herein would […]

  •   Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in […]

  •   I love me a good ghost story. I love to be scared. I mean, LOVE to be scared. I love the anticipation, I love build-up and I LOVE the reveal. And it seems like it’s been forever since we had a good old fashioned ghost story! Sure, we get a ton of blood and gore…but when was the last time you saw a real GHOST story? The Woman In Black fills that void nicely. Of course, it does have its flaws. It starts off VERY slowly. The first 50 minutes are a snore-fest. But after that, it’s a fun and jumpy ride! Daniel Radcliff does a decent job in his role as Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to a remote village […]

  • I’m going to begin this review by confessing that I’m actually NOT a baseball fan. I do understand baseball, and I AM a sports fan, so I do feel that I’m qualified to write a review about a sports movie. 😉 Moneyball is about Billy Beane, the General Manager of the struggling Oakland A’s. After losing his three top players, Beane, with the help of Ivy league graduate Peter Brand, develops a completely new way to build a ball team. Brad Pitt is great in the role of Beane, and his performance made the whole movie.  Jonah Hill as Brand is another story.  Don’t get me wrong. I’m a big Jonah fan. It just seems like he plays every part […]

  • I am a fan of Thor, both in Norwegian theology and in the pages of Marvel Comic books.  That said, I had high expectations for the movie released May 6, 2011.  If you want the short: Thor is epic!  Go see it.  Thor has a wonderful mix for a movie with action, comic relief, and a star studded cast.  You do not have to be into comic books to thoroughly enjoy this film.  Even if you would rather save money by seeing it in 2D instead of paying for a 3D IMAX experience, Thor is a fantastic work of art. For those of you that want the long: With any modern movie (especially movies aimed at a large range of […]
