  • Rage: A New Version of the Old Scene Rage is the new IP from ID Software, a company that has not released a new game in 15 years. Oh, and if you don’t like my usage of Aerosmith lyrics in my title, tough. Anyway, I digress. They have, however, given us gems like Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D and created the fps genre we all love so much today. That takes us to Rage, the newest installment from Id. I was lucky enough to have a full hour to play Rage at PAX Prime this year. The game blew me away! The cinematic opening shows Earth being struck by an asteroid, which causes the apocalypse. You wake up from a […]

  • PAX 2011 – Day 3 The morning came early. Our team successfully uploaded the GuildWars2 panel videos but it was a late night. We were all tired but had to push forward. We still had a lot of interviews ahead of us. I looked down and saw that the camera wasn’t plugged in, once again. I knew I would never hear the end of it. The day started off slowly. My legs ached from all the walking over the previous couple days. The shower didn’t seem strong enough to push the sleep from my brain. Loveless and I started out the day by finding the booth of a company we had to cancel on previously. It was impossible to make it to every appointment on time […]

  • Day 2 6 am came early. Waking up after getting to bed just five hours earlier was difficult. The amount of fun I had the day before helped to welcome the morning sun a little easier. I looked over and realized that my camera wasn’t plugged in. Did it come unplugged during the night? No, I just forgot to plug it in again! It’s my main job and I dropped the ball, again. We got into the car and I started driving to the convention center. I made Joe hold my camera while the car charged it. We showed up early and waited to get in. We updated Jonathan on what happened the day before since he missed it. Our […]

  • I’ve done conventions before, but PAX is a FANS’ convention. I was blown away. Tabletop and video game fans are the coolest. Here is my story day by day: PAX Prime 2011 – Day 1 Planning for today was laid out two weeks ahead of time. We left Loveless’s house at 7am on the nose. Had a great breakfast at Glow’s, and then everything went out the window. We came out from breakfast to a $43 parking ticket! What a way to start the day! Who knew we couldn’t park in the poorly marked parking lot immediately behind the restaurant of choice? That instantly doubled the price of breakfast! We get to PAX and I drop off my colleagues only […]

  • A reader of ours asked us to swing by the Minecraft booth at PAX, so I set a personal mission to do exactly that.  I found the Mojang set up and met with Brad Baldo.  Brad graciously walked me through the game, patiently explaining things to me.  He asked if I was familiar with the game and my unfortunate response was “Isn’t this the game that people use to make 8-bit art?” NOT the best way to start things off but Brad is the man.  Yes, this game is limited by your imagination as far as shaping your landscapes.  In an era where fans line up at Q&A sessions to ask about the lineality of a game, this game is […]

  •   Yes boys and girls, PAX Prime has come and gone. Somehow, our rag tag group of editors survived the mayhem.  We walked a lot, talked even more and even had time to play some games.  The amount of work we, as a team, have ahead of us to share with you guys is overwhelming, to say the least. We did our best to update Facebook as we played, but sometimes we got way too sidetracked. For us, PAX actually started Thursday, not Friday. Thursday, we were invited to a media only event with Activision. We were treated to a thirty-minute presentation of Prototype 2 that, literally, made my jaw drop. Got hands on time with the new X-Men title […]

This question opened a can of worms.  Matt Carofano said that they have intentionally avoided confirming or denying this.  He said that they have NOT really talked about it yet.  Since the press demo […]

  • It’s finally here! The glorious bastion of nerddom that we call PAX. One of the few dedicated events to honor my beloved pastime of splattering peoples’ brain in multiplayer FPS fun. Now, that’s not to say that all I do is play FPS games. I stretch across a wide spectrum of gaming to serve all of my gaming needs. And, that’s what makes PAX even more fun. I get to roam around and see the hot new titles coming out from sure to be blockbusters likeAssassins Creed, Uncharted, Modern Warfare 3, and too many more to list. But PAX also gives love to smaller indie developers, and I was shocked to see how many emails we, at Nerdtrek, received from these indie […]

We’ve been gearing up for PAX for awhile now.  Stocking up on supplies, making lists and checking them twice.  Basically making sure we’re prepared for anything yet carrying light loads of equipment.  I realized that writing an article about the behind the scenes would be beneficial to many of you.  Even if you’re not a media mogul or Jedi jounalist, surely you could benefit by looking over how NERD TREK prepares to cover a media event of this magnitude. First off, […]

  • PAX is a no holds barred celebration of one of my favorite past times, gaming. Sure, there are other things to do at PAX, other than gawking at the newest and hottest games that will be gracing our store shelves and hopefully our personal libraries. But, it’s all about the games, for me. This will be my fifth consecutive year of attending our annual gaming mecca, and I can honestly say that I get just as excited as the first time I went. The boys over at Penny Arcade have truly done us (gamers) a tremendous service by hosting this festival of nerddom for all to relish! It amazes me to see PAX grow in size and depth, year after […]

The Penny-Arcade.com website receives over 2 million page views a day and I can say without hesitation that I am quite green with envy- almost as green as Kermit the Frog.  […]
