  • I’ve been following the progression and reviews of Diablo 3 with interest, reading about the frustration of the first day launch issues and the mixed responses to the actual gameplay. Following not experiencing I have to say because I will never be able to play a game like Diablo 3. You see, D3 requires a constant internet connection which takes you to the servers where this game is hosted, forcing you to be online even when you are playing a single-player campaign. Although I would’ve loved to play D3, a game 12 years in the making, my internet is simply too slow and getting a faster connection would be more expensive than one game is worth. This game has begun to […]

  • There are few things worse than dedicating hours of your life, attention, and finger dexterity to a video game only to get to the end and be enormously disappointed. It feels like being robbed of sweet victory, and it amounts to having your built-up expectations shattered. Be forewarned that the following list is a compilation of plot-spoilers, but also know that these plots were spoiled long before this list was ever written. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault After days of fighting Nazis in Africa and France, being challenged by enemies who become increasingly clever in their assaults, and completing nearly thirty levels, this game ends on a flat note. One would expect a game with such nuanced graphics and detailed […]

  •  Video games as art. I could go on and on about how modern games reflect society or how the gorgeous graphics that can rival the ancient masters of the canvas or, in addition, how the music score uses the best orchestral arrangements since Beethoven. All true, however, irrelevant to my salient point. Which is? Art is not complete until it meets the audience. That is to say, that any form of art is not complete until it is presented to an audience. It’s sort of like old adage ‘if there is nobody in the forest to hear the tree fall’, yadda, yadda, yadda. Sure, you can argue that a TV show or movie is complete when the final edit is done. But […]

  • Anyone who has read any of my previous NERDTREK posts should know one thing by now, I HATE REBOOTS! Of course, for every rule, there is an exception. Thus, my love of the recently re-released Ico/Shadowof the Colossus package. I’m not sure whether or not I would actually call this a reboot, moreover a hi-def makeover of two epic and underrated games from team Ico. Unlike a lot of other games that get pushed onto consumers over and over again, like Mario Galaxy Seventeen blah blah blah, these two games needed to be re-released, so younger gamers can experience the beauty and wonder they provide. And, what better way to play them than the two games getting redone to look […]

  • Friday, November 11, 2011 is a really big day in many aspects.  I am just wigging out about everything I will have to do that day.  Three big items get released that day that I have to balance and do them all, in the same day.  These items that are so important to me are: The release of SkyRim (Elder Scrolls V) The DVD/Blu-Ray release of the final film Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 The release of the Immortals movie in theaters SkyRim is the game of games for me.  I have three copies that are being sent to me which are:  the PC copy, PlayStation Copy, and Xbox copy.  But I know that I’ll have to […]

  • PAX 2011 – Day 3 The morning came early. Our team successfully uploaded the GuildWars2 panel videos but it was a late night. We were all tired but had to push forward. We still had a lot of interviews ahead of us. I looked down and saw that the camera wasn’t plugged in, once again. I knew I would never hear the end of it. The day started off slowly. My legs ached from all the walking over the previous couple days. The shower didn’t seem strong enough to push the sleep from my brain. Loveless and I started out the day by finding the booth of a company we had to cancel on previously. It was impossible to make it to every appointment on time […]

  • Socom, a franchise synonymous with frantic action and tense stealth gameplay, released its newest title, Socom 4, for the Playstation 3. Having been a long standing fan of the series, (even one that was released for the Psp) I had high hopes and higher expectations. Luckily for me and anyone else who cares to play it, I wasn’t disappointed. As in previous Socom titles, you head a team of elite operatives trying to save the world from utter destruction by various individuals. But luckily, the world has you and your team here to put a bullet in their collective heads to thwart whatever plans they had. Level design is pretty standard fair for a war game, lush jungles, ancient ruins, bunkers and […]
