  • Warrior Prestige Archetypes: The Low Templar This pdf of the Warrior Prestige Archetype-series clocks in at 9 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial/introduction (explaining the base concept of the series), 1 page SRD, leaving us with 6 pages of content, so let’s take a look!   What are Prestige Archetypes? Well, I reviewed the whole first series, so here’s the tl;dr-version: They are prestige classes blended with one (or more) base-class(es) to result in a new, 20-level-class – much like you had modified the base class with an archetype. Get it? Yeah, not a hard concept to grasp, is it? Now personally, I use Prestige Classes with an emphasis on the PRESTIGE-component, archetypes more like a career path, […]

  • Phil Glotfelty over at Gamemasters (Pittsburgh’s best, newly-remodeled hobby shop!) has been on to me for a few weeks about writing something for his re-vamped website. After thinking about it for a bit, I’ve decided that I owe more than just him a proper review—Paizo is due some love for the NPC Codex as well. When I first heard about this book, I wasn’t impressed—that was a mistake on my part. This is easily the best thing I got at Gencon last year and has paid for itself several times over at this point. The fact that it’s open content shouldn’t deter you either; what’s the random shopkeeper the PCs have decided to stiff have for attack options? Now those are at hand (not on a […]

  • Fellow geeks and gamers – we’ve all been in similar situations. Friends of ours that are into sports or dance clubs constantly hound us about being a Hobbit(minus the adventuring) because we never go out to loud venues and, instead, choose the private setting of a home in order to take in the latest Dr. Who  episode or to play Magic: The Gathering with friends. For too long geeks have been misunderstood and mislabeled as self-chosen social outcasts. And there may be some geeks out there that DO choose to live completely off the social grid. But that is not who I speak for…. I speak for the geeks that want a place to call our own. I am talking […]

From the hundreds of ports of classic games to the original titles that proliferate that little blue icon on your phone or tablet. The App Store is home to some truly spectacular games. While Angry Birds and Draw Something are the App Store’s monoliths, the world of RPGs on your iOS device also serves up some pretty remarkable gaming experiences. While the App Store boasts more apps filed under the RPG heading than I care to count, sadly, most are thinly veiled attempts to get you to spend a few bucks on something that is subpar to the few gems that really shine […]

Anyone paying attention is well aware of how well received the first installment (The Spell Less Ranger) was, and what type of pressure that places upon this book right off the bat. Question here then is, did Marc Radle have another bullet in the chamber? So let us take a look. Weighing in at 16 pages, with 10 pages of new material, 2 sheets for tracking wild shape and a spirit guide, cover, OGL, credit and ad (which would not fully load in my version of this PDF). Artwork is handled by the talented Rick Hershey, as those familiar with his style can easily recognize from the […]

Now, we’re not talking Hollywood cheeze here, no freaking Chucky dolls, oh no, this little lady was crafted from the skin of corpses, she was built to house the soul of killer resurrected for the purpose of trapping her within this construct….shame for the clerics who performed the ritual that she was better than they were. The iconography of this cover piece definitely convey the sense of ancient secrets of power. Internally, the artwork is B&W, with pieces ranging from good to OK. This PDF continues a new look from the SGG camp for layout, going with a full page cover and dual column with embedded artwork formatting approach. Editing and spelling both appeared to be excellent, nothing really jumped out and caught my attention. Convention gaming is its own special creature, and none more special than Gencon. Usually people run roleplaying games at conventions for one of the following reasons: 1. Yes, from a purely meta-gamer point of view this is a concept that has now been done three times over; the archon, the magus and of course the vanguard itself, so why the need right? Simple answer, because there’s more than one class swinging a sword isn’t there? We play in a game that is built on versatility and option. It is that wealth of […]
