  •   When looking at the stars, I have often wondered if we will ever find alien life in our lifetime.  The book Man of Steel with novelization done by Gregg Cox, gives this dream a vivid background.  David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan shifted the paradigm of Superman in words that have normally been saved for the loyal fans of comic books and gave it to the world in written form. I have been asked did I see the movie before I read the book?  Yes, I did.  But what the book did was to bring clarity to a movie on items that even a diehard fan such as myself was left wondering after the movie was over.  The movie […]

  • So the 60’s and 70’s come along and there are a lot of books that make social commentary, which is no big shocker because many comics, since they have been around, have made some sort of social commentary or another about something, whether it was war, poverty or whatever….it seemed the best was done through Marvel comics but then DC released in Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #106 “I Am Curious Black”. In it, Lois does a story on….get this….”Little Africa”, in Metropolis and the black folks are so distrusting of white people ,that they won’t even speak to her. She is also berated by a black man holding a “street meeting” for other black folks. Then in an attempt to “connect” with […]

  • Another reboot for a company that set the bar for how we could grow attached to comics through iconic figures. Going into this reboot I was upset. What did you need to change? What purpose could it serve going forward? Basically I was mad that they would do this… until I read the book 1 of Justice league. I do not know how a company can redefine a group that has been drawn for decades, but they did.  I was very impressed!  Actually, I was stunned and reinvigorated! The changes that have been made to my favorite superhero (Superman of course) are just amazing. His belt is red and his belt buckle is shaped like the symbol from the house […]
