  • . In this new steam punk inspired world, you’ll be a supernatural powered former bodyguard of an assassinated empress and framed for her murder…  Your environment is based on a whaling city, and similar to an old London with futuristic and paranormal aspects to it. . . Teleportation, Possession, Stopping Time, and Double Jumping are just a handful of tools that will be at your disposal.  One of the most intriguing things that I’ve seen from the game so far is the ability to combine different powers to compound aspects of what you’re trying to accomplish.  Mix teleporting with double jumps to cover ground and distance that would make Parkour fans salivate.  Stop time, possess people and move them around… It’s all fair game in this […]

  • Aiden Pierce is the protagonist of this open World Third-Person Action Adventure game.  It’s set in modern day Chicago where the city government is corrupt.  You (as Aiden Pierce) are trying to take down and expose the corrupt officials using the grey area world between mainstream society and the criminal underground. Surveillance is an important mechanic in the game.  We’ll be able to use Aiden’s in-game cell phone for doing things like manipulating traffic lights to cause accidents, listening in on people’s phone calls, and identifying strangers.  We can also hack into personal profiles, employment files, medical reports, and get other info on them.  The game looks really cool while you’re using the surveillance systems in the gameplay footage I’ve […]

  • I’ve recently acquired a copy of Rage, the first person shooter developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It seemed like a pretty decent line up and I was quite excited to return to a post apocalyptic world. Something, in my opinion – along with zombies and Coca Cola, that never gets old. I spend hours running around the Capital Wasteland of Fallout 3, oogling the scenery, running around, jumping, climbing trees and historical monuments alike and I wouldn’t have minded if Rage was like this, if only to give me a change of scenery that I haven’t explored to the max. At first glance, these two games appear suspiciously similar. You play as a character buried in a hole for the past […]

  • There are few things worse than dedicating hours of your life, attention, and finger dexterity to a video game only to get to the end and be enormously disappointed. It feels like being robbed of sweet victory, and it amounts to having your built-up expectations shattered. Be forewarned that the following list is a compilation of plot-spoilers, but also know that these plots were spoiled long before this list was ever written. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault After days of fighting Nazis in Africa and France, being challenged by enemies who become increasingly clever in their assaults, and completing nearly thirty levels, this game ends on a flat note. One would expect a game with such nuanced graphics and detailed […]

  • I have broken down and decided to play World of Warcraft.  There are many reasons why but the top 3 fall back on these tenets: un-dedicated gamers in my area, hectic work schedules of table-top gamers, and the ability to get lost in a world within a few minutes rather than waiting on schedules to synch between ALL players. Yet, the biggest reason I have decided to play is because my wife plays.  I know, I know.  Like Felicia Day says in ‘The Guild’, “I know, a chick gamer.”  And, yes, I DO think it’s hot.  So while I can’t convince my wife to play D&D or a myriad of other table-top RPGs, I can jump online with her and go stomping around collecting […]

  • If there is one thing we are all expecting from Mass Effect 3, it’s the prospect of having the most emotional journey with Shepard yet. It became clear from the very start that there wasn’t going to be any middle ground in this epic conclusion of the trilogy. In the first gameplay that was released, we saw Shepard trying to coach a young boy out of a ventilation shaft as Anderson lead them through the ruins of Earth. He spoke kindly to the lad but the boy balked and disappeared, only to reappear later as Shepard reached the Normandy… If you know how this scene ends, I don’t have to elaborate and if you don’t, I’m not going to spoil it […]

  • The name Goldeneye 007 summons memories of my college days, living in a party house and spending our time playing video games instead of studying.  We would gather with our individually earmarked 6-packs and bulky N64 controllers to battle it out in multi-player. My strategy was always the same.  Load up on proximity mines, litter the level with them, then hide somewhere and snipe any players who happened to make it through my ridiculous minefield.  I would laugh maniacally while the others exploded in bursts of flame and curtains of blood poured across their screens time and time again.  I actually recall one particularly heated game where a roommate physically attacked me because he enraged with my usage of proximity […]

  • My 9 year-old nephew Justice loved it, I liked it, and lots of “hardcore gamers” I know HATE it.  I say “to each their own.” In yet another case of “what are you looking for in a game?” Here’s an in-depth review worth reading: The video game X-Men: Destiny is based on the X-Men comic book series.  Mike Carey (writer from the X-Men: Legacy comic book series) wrote the story for the game.  It flows really well with the X-Men story arcs before the current Schism/Regenesis stories. When you start playing X-Men: Destiny you choose to be one of three all new characters (Aimi Yoshida, Grant Alexander, and Adrian Luca) and you get one of three new mutant powers (Energy […]

  • Rage: A New Version of the Old Scene Rage is the new IP from ID Software, a company that has not released a new game in 15 years. Oh, and if you don’t like my usage of Aerosmith lyrics in my title, tough. Anyway, I digress. They have, however, given us gems like Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D and created the fps genre we all love so much today. That takes us to Rage, the newest installment from Id. I was lucky enough to have a full hour to play Rage at PAX Prime this year. The game blew me away! The cinematic opening shows Earth being struck by an asteroid, which causes the apocalypse. You wake up from a […]

  •   Our interview at PAX Prime with Red 5 Studios regarding their new game Firefall sure started off awkward.  In a way that’s kind of how we intended it.  Bill and I walked into our appointment surrounded by larger than life statues of game characters and huge screens playing cut-scenes from the game itself.  We introduced ourselves and told them we were with NERD TREK. Soon we found ourselves talking with a gentleman whom we later found out wasn’t just any lackey programmer, but the LEAD developer of the entire game.  Of course, we found this out after asking a series of somewhat uncalled for questions to appease our own comedic appetites as well as those of our readers. NERD […]

  • Here’s a list of video games that I’d like to see more information on, if I’m not already anxiously awaiting the release.  Most of them come out by the end of the year 2011, but there are a couple early previews for 2012…   Assassins Creed: Revelations The city looks beautiful.  This game takes place in Constantinople after the events of Brotherhood.  You’ll be looking for 5 keys to unlock the library.  Eighty-five percent of the city is sloped.  Zip lines utilizing the new hook blade are often used since the city is so sloped.  The hook blade is vicious.  It’s really cool.  You can tear into people and finish enemies with some interesting moves using the hook blade.  You can use a smoke bomb and “Eagle Sense” (like eagle […]

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due for release on 11-11-11 by Bethesda Softworks and I for one cannot get enough of the details that have been released for this game. This trailer finally contains some actual footage of the game in action. This trailer blew me away! Here’s the good stuff, stop listening to me ramble on and get on with it! Please share this with your friends on Facebook and take a minute to “Like” us while you’re at it! Thanks for supporting NERDTREK.com! How is my Xbox going to handle the load on the poorly designed GPU chips without bursting into flames? No matter, I have ordered […]
