TEASE (TELEVISION PILOT)

EXT. SPACE

Establish.  Vast.  Desolate.  Utter silence as we PAN the empty stillness, the distant stars, and finally SETTLE ON –

A spaceship floating in space, listing awkwardly.  PUSH IN to reveal – it has been damaged and is venting atmosphere.

INT. SPACESHIP

SWEEPING THROUGH the ship’s interior, empty rooms and corridors illuminated by  emergency lighting only.  Dark.  Dirty.  More Nostromo than Enterprise.  An alarm sounds.  A disembodied voice warns –

DISEMBODIED VOICE

Life support at fifteen percent.

But not a soul in sight.

INT. CARGO BAY – SHIP

The alarm sounds.

DISEMBODIED VOICE

Life support at fifteen percent.

Steam vents from ruptured pipes.  Sparks shower down from the overhead gak.  OVER TO a row of stasis pods, six in all.

PUSH IN THROUGH the venting steam to one of the pods occupied by a handsome man in his late twenties [ONE].  He is fairhaired, boyish good-looking.  Eyes shut, dreaming, oblivious to the surrounding pandemonium, he floats in the blue stasis liquid wearing nothing but wet-suit bottoms.  HOLD ON him.  A stream of bubbles rise up and past his face.  Beat.  Another stream of bubbles.  Beat.

His eyes flash open and, suddenly, he is drowning.  He thrashes around in the stasis pod, wide-eyed, fighting to free himself.  He screams, loosening a lungful of air and –

The amniotic liquid within the pod drains, allowing him to desperately gasp for breath.  The shielding slides back and he stumbles out, collapsing onto the cold floor.

Wet, shivering, he fights to catch his breath, then straightens and looks around, panicked.  Clearly, he has no idea where he is.  He struggles to make sense of what the hell is going on.  The alarm continues to sound.  The disembodied voice informs him –

DISEMBODIEDVOICE

Life support at fourteen percent.
